My painting style as a whole took off once I started a Foundation Course at Coleg Menai, in North Wales. When I started the course my aim was to be a fashion designer, but my ideas soon changed. I began by specialising in Fine Art and finished the course with such inspiration and a new approach to my amibtions. I soon found a way of painting that was unique to me and my work was
based in enamels and emulsion paints, while introducing a range of glitters and gold leaf. The textures interested me and my inspiration and collection of works started to grow. I opened a small gallery of my work whilst working at the Willowburn Hotel up on Seil Island near Oban and started selling my work which was quite successful. Whatever spare time I had left was spent on the water, sea kayaking, where I gain a lot of my inspiration from.
At the end of last year, I left everything behind and set off for four months travelling around New Zealand. The inspiration was endless and my painting style changed as I no longer had the space for endless paint and enamel pots! I went back to basics and found working in pen really interesting. I moved more towards still life drawing, the architecture and shapes interested me. Along the way, I started a couple of sketchbooks
documenting my travels which you can flick through online here>>>> Also, I managed to sell a few of my own drawings, one of which is currently up in a hostel in Oamaru, South Island. I pursued my keen interest in sea kayaking and explored the amazing coastlines of New Zealand. After returning home a few months ago, I found my love for sea kayaking had grown even more. Now, I am working towards coaching qualifications while spending my spare time paddling the west coast of Scotland. My ambitions as an artist are still here. I am currenlty working towards a new collection of paintings based in oil paints.
